I don’t know how many times I have heard “I hate my job” but it’s a lot, I have even said it myself before when I’ve had a particularly bad day, but despite how often this is said and thought if someone asks you who you are or what you do, you immediately reply with your job title, right? Therefore if you hate your job do you hate yourself and who you are?
It took me a while to realise it but when I was working, living and breathing the big corporate lifestyle it dawned on me that IF I was going to be described by my job and job title then I wanted to do something completely different. I did not want to hate my job and be described and judged by that same job. I wanted something better and I wanted to BE a better person. I had already tried changing jobs a few times but I soon realised (like most people) that some jobs are better than others but mostly it’s only the nicer people around you that make it bearable, essentially the actual job is the same as the last one.
Some people opt out of modern life all together, maybe backpack around the world or buy a small piece of land to become “self sufficient”. I know people who have done these things and the thought crossed my mind once or twice but I wanted something more than this. I questioned why I couldn’t find freedom from the rat race and make good money at the same time.
My book How To Be Lucky documents how I employed my entrepreneurial skills and spirit to find total freedom; freedom from the job I hated and financial freedom so I could really enjoy my life. Most importantly now I don’t hate my job or who I am; I love my job and I love my life. I wanted others to feel the same read my book and I hope you will never say I hate my job ever again.
