I wanted to expand on this more, to really explain what I mean. This article really came out of something I posted on someone’s Facebook wall in response to them asking why some people say we should not chase actual money and why the love of money is not always a good thing. Here is what I posted:
Never get fixated with money; money is a means to an end that’s all. Money is just one of the tools to get the things you dream of. Just money is not what you dream of right? The things you can get with it is the dream? Money is just numbers on paper. Money is just the tool. Stay focused on the things you actually want and the lifestyle you want then work on the tools you need to get them. Work on gathering ALL the tools you need to achieve your dreams, money is just one of them.
I always looked to and worked on “bigger house”, “nicer car”, “vacation home”, “not working for someone else” and it all happened eventually. I never worked toward $200,000.00 or $1,000,000.00 unless that was the amount I needed for the new house, car, new investment, whatever. Try and look at it like this: if everything you ever wanted and dreamed of costs a total of $10,000,000.00 and I gave you that exact amount would you spend it all on all you dreamed of? Or would you only spend some of it, afraid to lose it all and enjoy staring at the bank statement with 00,s on it instead? Or if you were stranded on a desert island what good would a suitcase full of $100 bills be? Apart from maybe to set fire to keep warm at night. Wouldn’t a huge boat be more useful? OK I’m being a bit silly now but you get the idea.
Here is one simplified way of looking at it: If my dream is to have a boat and I go to classes to learn how to build a boat and I use a little money and my skills of persuasion to acquire secondhand parts and materials, I can then build my own boat and achieve my dream with very little money. By thinking outside of the box the money part becomes just a minor part of the requirements. You can expand on this and apply these principles to almost anything.
Try and lose the hard work idea too, I acn be quite lazy at times (like anyone else) and I’m always looking for shortcuts so try and work smart not hard, I know it’s a cliché but it’s true. Don’t get me wrong I put the hours in but I put them into the right areas, the areas that get results.
